About the residency
A three weeks residency program targetted to performers who are in their intermediate stage of production, and who are looking for production time, professional expertise and guidance to develop their performance material. Mainly performers who direct their own performances, as solo performers or small collectives. In addition to the performer, it can include a scenographer or musician if it is a small collective.
The residency structure consists of: Individual rehearsal time, Mentors’ observations, sharing practice & open rehearsals.
The residency prioritises experimental artistic practice, encouraging residents to dedicate time to explore their developed material and performance approaches.
Reflective observations and artistic support are central to this process. Through daily observations by the mentors followed by 1:1 meetings with each artist individually to reflect on the observations, the work process, challenges the artists are facing and their needs.
You can capply as a single performer or a small collective of max 3 persons.
You must be willing to attend the full period of the residency from 8-28 Oct. in Ringkøbing, Denmark at the Brogården Kulturvæksthus.
About the residency space
Brogården Kulturvæksthus is a large maner house, that is turned into an artist residency and incubator for the creative sector, a cultural hub.
It has accommodation facilities, working atelier, meeting spaces, pottery studio, 2 shared kitchens, 2 bycicles & gardens dedicated for resident artists and guest seminars. It collaborates with its neighbouring 3min walk highschools and local theatre and concert halls, it has access to book the dance studios and rehearsal rooms when needed.
The residency is 5 min walk from the fjord, 10 min walk from the station and the town center and many thrift stores for props and costumes. There are many small forests around and the westcoast beach is 10 min drive. There is a possibility in the town to rent a small car on hourly basis with affordable prices.
The residency offers the selected participants:
- Travel costs
- Daily perdiums for 21 days
- Single accommodation at the residency - with shared bathrooms and kitchens
- Work spaces and atelier
- 2 Mentors
About the mentors
Sarime Alvarez Hernandez is a professor & stage director, theatre anthropology researcher playwright & literary advisor. Trained in Cuba, Mexico, Denmark, and Italy, with over 20 years of experience in research, pedagogy, training, and artistic creation.
Her pedagogical as well as stage direction background and her connection to the laboratory practice, makes her an excellent candidtate to mentor performers at their journey of the residency.
Dina Abu Hamdan is a stage director and producer that comes from the dance background. Specialised in movement, and outdoor and community enaging productions. She has experience in light art and digital technology. She is a certified coach and a cultural officer at the municipality of Ringkøbing Skjern Kommune.
The application must include:
- Portfolio (max. 4 MB) and/or link to online portfolio
- Short biography, selected CV and artist statement (total max. 1 page)
- Brief about the performance in development and the stage of production
- What is your motivation to participate in the residency (total max. 1/2 page)
- Contact information and country of residence
